Why I Chose MSMEs—And Built a Coaching Model Just for Them

They are the lifeblood of every economy on the planet.

In the Philippines alone, over 90% of registered businesses are micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). These enterprises generate 60% of jobs, fuel innovation, and support families and communities. They are the backbone of our economy—and yet, they are often underserved, especially in areas that matter most: leadership development, business training, and long-term growth strategies.

Early in my journey as a leadership and business coach, I had a choice to make: focus on the corporate world with its large budgets and structured systems, or focus on MSMEs, where the need is greater but the resources are fewer.

I chose MSMEs.

Yes, large companies invest significantly in human resources and training. They have the luxury of onboarding consultants, enrolling executives in development programs, and launching internal leadership academies. And while those programs are meaningful, I knew that my greatest impact wouldn’t come from working with organizations that were already strong. It would come from equipping those who often get overlooked.

For me, money was never the primary motivator. What drove me then—and still drives me now—is making a difference where it matters most. And I saw that small business owners, despite their ambition and talent, often lack access to practical, values-based, and scalable tools that could help them lead well, build clarity, and grow sustainably.

Many MSME owners are great at what they do—whether it’s food, services, manufacturing, or retail. But they struggle with the parts of business no one teaches in school: how to build a high-performing team, how to develop a clear business message, how to make decisions based on data, not just instinct. And perhaps most importantly, how to stay resilient and aligned as they face the daily pressures of entrepreneurship.

I knew they needed more than inspiration. They needed a framework. A system that would help them:

  • Lead themselves and their people well
  • Understand and simplify business operations
  • Grow through strong networks and relationships
  • Stay accountable to the goals they set

That’s why I built a coaching model tailored for MSMEs. It’s not just based on theory. It’s based on real-world experience and tested strategies that actually work for entrepreneurs in our local context.

If we want our economy to grow, we must start with the people growing it: our MSME owners.

And if we want them to thrive, we need to give them more than encouragement. We need to give them tools that work.

That’s what my coaching model is all about.

Because when MSMEs grow, everyone wins.
